Elastic sliding and transmission ratio with belt drive

1. Elastic sliding and sliding rate

(1) Elastic sliding

The relative sliding between the belt and the pulley caused by the elastic deformation of the belt is called elastic sliding, which is an inherent characteristic of belt transmission. Choosing belt materials with high elastic modulus can reduce elastic sliding

Sliding rate

The sliding rate of belt drive is generally 1%~2%, which can be ignored in general

(2) Slipping

Due to the need to transmit loads, when the effective circumferential force required for belt transmission exceeds the limit of frictional force between the belt and pulley surfaces, significant relative sliding occurs between the belt and pulley surfaces throughout the entire contact arc.

Slipping will cause belt transmission failure and exacerbate belt wear, so slipping should be avoided during normal operation.
